Résumé : |
During the 1960s, after a long period of suppression, a renaissance of Afro-Surinamese culture started. Around the same time Pentecostalism was introduced with great success. In this article it is being argued that the worldviews of the Afro-Surinamese Winti religion and of Pentecostalism are interlocking, explaining the attractiveness of the latter to Afro-Surinamese who since their acceptance of Christianity had been confronted with suppression and ridiculization of their worldview as 'superstition' in the mainstream missionary churches |
